Q & A with Coach Stefan

Q: How did you first start playing water polo?

A: I had some friends that were already playing at Tsunami. I had yet to find a sport I really enjoyed and they seemed to be having a good time so I gave it a shot.

Q: What is it about water polo that made you fall in love with the sport?

A: I liked that it required a unique set of skills. Being in the water is a great equalizer. At the end of the day if your technique is bad no amount of physical strength can make you good.

Q: What is your favourite water polo memory?

A: Going on nature walks and exclusively drinking water with our health obsessed coach. No sugar allowed!

Q: What made you want to be a coach?

A: I owe the sport, the club, and my coaches and teammates a lot. They've taught me countless life lessons and made me a better person. Hopefully I can pay it back.

Q: Who was your most influential coach?

A: Fedja Avlijas was my favourite coach. He constantly taught us about the responsibility to the club and to your teammates not only to perform well individually but to bolster and improve those around you. He was a big proponent of developing a long lasting club culture.

Q: Who is an athlete you admire?

A: Nikola Jokic. I admire his level-headedness which allows him to see plays that others don't.

Q: What is your favourite quote?

A: "All things must pass." - George Harrison
