Q & A with Coach Quinn
Q: How did you first start playing water polo?
A: Before joining water polo I competed in competitive summer swimming where I would always finish behind the water polo boys! Not liking to lose, I figured playing water polo would be good cross-training for summer swimming.
Q: What is it about water polo that made you fall in love with the sport?
A: I enjoy playing a sport that allows me to use my swimming ability outside of competitive swimming. Also, I love my teammates!
Q: What is your favourite water polo memory?
A: Winning the first male NCL medal for Tsunami Water Polo Club. We started the season having missed a whole year of proper training and competition. Most of us were new to Tsunami and it was our first year with Coach Marina. We started the year losing all our games in the first two tournaments. Despite losing, our team really bonded between games and became very close. I’m very proud of how far we grew as a team last year.
Q: What made you want to be a coach?
A: I love building relationships with kids and sharing my passion for the water.
Q: Who was your most influential coach?
A: I have been very fortunate to have many great coaches. It was my swim club coach Megan Johnston who convinced me to join water polo. Marina Radu has been huge in my life over the last year. She has instilled in me a better sense of discipline in and out of the water.
Q: Who is an athlete you admire?
A: Michael Phelps. He is the GOAT! His work ethic, his discipline, his success are so very impressive. I also admire that he owned his demons, recommitted himself to swimming and went on to win more Olympic medals at Rio 2016.
Q: What is your favourite quote?
A: "You don’t need a license to drive a sandwich." - Spongebob Square Pants
