Q & A with Coach Kara
Q: How did you first start playing water polo?
A: I was looking for a sport to join after Covid had ended my previous one.
Q: What is it about water polo that made you fall in love with the sport?
A: I have always loved swimming and as a kid I played hockey, I found water polo to be a middle ground that had all my interests.
Q: What is your favourite water polo memory?
A: The year I played, I remember in all of our tournaments we kept losing to one team. In our last tournament, provincials, we finally won. This ended up giving us gold, but I think being able to come back from those losses is what really made waterpolo become such a special part of my life.
Q: What made you want to be a coach?
A: I have always loved kids, helping them develop their skills and getting to support their progress is so rewarding.
Q: Who was your most influential coach?
A: My basketball coach Melanie Thomas was incredibly supportive throughout an injury I had when I first started playing. She helped guide me back into a mindset where I could heal my injury and continue playing sports. Without her I’m not sure I would have kept playing sports after the age of 15.
Q: What is your favourite quote?
A: “Every day we start fresh because we can’t affect the past, but we can sure make a difference today”
