Q & A with Coach Sabrina

Q: How did you first start playing water polo?

A: I was a competitive swimmer and one of my swimming friends invited me to try water polo recreationally.

Q: What is it about water polo that made you fall in love with the sport?

A: I loved how it was a completely different water sport than what I was used to.

Q: What made you want to be a coach?

A: I got involved in coaching the learn-to-swim program in my hometown and it just kind of stuck ever since. Watching how the kids progress and getting to know them is a huge part of why I still coach.

Q: Who was your most influential coach?

A: All of my coaches have played a significant role in who I am today, but Colleen was a big part in getting me here. She believed in my potential as a swimmer when I tried out for the varsity team and she pushed me to be my best.

Q: Who is an athlete you admire?

A: All of the para swimmers I worked with at the Steadward Centre are so incredible. I’d show up to coach and they would always have a positive attitude and be excited to be there.

Q: What is your favourite quote?

A: “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” – Walt Disney
