Q & A with Coach Caysi

Q: How did you first start playing water polo?

A: As long as I can remember I watched my sister playing and as the younger sibling wanting to be like my sister. She was a role model for me as I grew up and I wanted to do exactly what she did so I joined and fell in love with the sport.

Q: What is it about water polo that made you fall in love with the sport?

A: I love how unique the sport is and being able to share a new hobby at my school or to my friends that no one else did was pretty cool. I also love the contact aspect as well and the experiences you get with travelling and building a second family!

Q: What is your favourite water polo memory?

A: I have many memories that I cherish while playing the sport but one of my favourites was taking the California trip with all the age groups. Being able to bond and become closer as a team was a good memory and I would love to re-live it!

Q: What made you want to be a coach?

A: What made me interested in becoming a coach is probably the fact that I was able to share what I love and help kids at a young age be able to fall in love with the sport as well.

Q: Who was your most influential coach?

A: Marina Radu has been one of the people I look up to for the way she taught us and made us work so hard. She showed us what you can achieve if you work for it. She was a very amazing coach and I am lucky to say I was able to be coached by her.

Q: Who is an athlete you admire?

A: Abby Wambach is an athlete I admired because of her independency, how hard she worked and because she doesn’t give up. We read her book Wolfpack last year and that really gave me motivation and I was very intrigued by her story!

Q: What is your favourite quote?

A: "You cannot control how others perceive you or what people do. You can only control yourself.”
